Exotic to Exquisite
October 6, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Please join Tucson Concert Band for the 2019-2020 concert season opener Exotic to Exquisite on Sunday October 6, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the Sun City Oro Valley Activity Center. The program opens with the noble and stately March and Procession of Bacchus from the ballet “SYLVIA” by Léo Delibes followed by two widely contrasting works of Philip Sparke, Bandwagon and Sunrise at Angles Gate. Next up is Shelly Hanson’s Volver a la Montaña from Islas y Montañas, featuring music based on exotic folk tunes of the Quechua (“Inca”) people of Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. The band will also be performing a beautiful romantic work by Japanese composer Daisuke Shimizu titled Sea of Wisdom as well as an exciting, yet today rarely performed award winning composition by Camille De Nardis, The Universal Judgment. Known for her creative interpretations, pianist Sheryll McManus will be featured performing the exquisite opening movement of Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor. Critics have written of her playing: “She can make the piano sing with a voice of rare appeal….a poet at the keyboard”. Tickets available at the door for $10.
